  • UTA was awarded R-1: Doctoral Universities—Very High Research Activity designation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the definitive list for the top doctoral research universities in the United States. This puts the University in an elite group of 131 institutions, including Harvard, MIT, and Johns Hopkins.
  • U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 “Best Graduate Schools” rankings include more than 20 graduate programs at UTA.
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked UTA fifth among national universities for undergraduate ethnic diversity in 2019.
  • UTA was ranked No. 221 in U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Colleges for 2019." The University was No. 126 among top public universities in the magazine’s rankings.
  • According to Military Times, UTA ranks No. 7 nationally on the 2019 “Best for Vets: Colleges” list, the highest of any four-year Texas university.
  • A University of Texas System survey on post-graduation earnings for baccalaureate graduates working in Texas found that UTA graduates have the highest first-year median wage of any non-medical UT System institution.
  • In its pioneering University Impact Rankings, Times Higher Education ranked UTA No. 4 in the United States and No. 70 worldwide for its impact in addressing global challenges around education, health, and sustainability. It also measured the University's work in supporting sustainable development goals developed by the United Nations, ranking UTA No. 16 globally for its work developing sustainable cities and communities, No. 46 globally in the area of good health and well-being, and No. 84 globally in the area of quality education. It was among the top 200 worldwide in the global partnerships category. More than 450 universities representing 76 countries participated.
  • UTA is No. 1 in Texas for the number of transfer students enrolled, according to U.S. News & World Report. The University had 6,693 transfer students in 2017.
  • Washington Monthly ranked UTA No. 1 in the metroplex and No. 7 in Texas in its "2018 Rankings—National Universities." The University is also No. 44 in the "America’s Best Bang for the Buck Colleges—South" region and included on the list of the "58 Best Colleges for Encouraging Student Voting."
  • The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Almanac (2018-19) ranked UTA as the fifth fastest-growing doctoral public institution in the country.
  • The SR Education Group ranked UTA No. 20 on its list of the best online colleges for 2019. The rankings use recent alumni salary data from PayScale and tuition rates across degree levels and programs to provide a list of the schools offering the best value to students.
  • College Consensus ranked UTA No. 18 in the country on its 2019 "Most Innovative Online Colleges" list.
  • UTA ranks No. 9 as a Military Friendly” university for 2018 by Victory Media, which evaluates higher-education institutions for exhibiting leading practices in recruiting and supporting post-military students.
  • In the 2018-19 Center for World University Rankings, UTA is ranked 150th nationally and 558th in the world.
  • The Princeton Review named UTA as one of the "Best of the West" in its 2019 Best Colleges: Region by Region rankings.
  • Winds of Change magazine named UTA to its 2018-19 list of top 200 schools for Native American students pursuing STEM degrees, the fourth consecutive year it has been recognized.
  • Hispanic Network Magazine ranked UTA among the nation's Best of the Best Schools for 2018.
  • Diverse: Issues in Higher Education ranks UTA among the top universities in the country for conferring degrees to minority students. For 2018, UTA was No. 1 in Texas and No. 11 in the country for bachelor’s degrees awarded to African-American students; No. 1 in Texas and No. 23 nationally for master’s degrees awarded to African-American students; No. 3 in Texas and No. 18 in the country for master’s degrees awarded to Hispanic graduate students; No. 1 in North Texas and No. 19 in the country for bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanic students; No. 1 in Texas and No. 22 in the country for master’s degrees awarded to all minority students; and No. 1 in North Texas, No. 3 in Texas, and No. 15 in the country for bachelor’s degrees conferred to all minority students.
  • College Factual ranked UTA in the top 15 percent of U.S. colleges and universities for veteran friendliness. The ranking is based on educational outcomes to veterans, active-duty military students, and their families.
  • Military Advanced Education & Transition Magazine named UTA a "Top School" for military culture, financial assistance, flexibility, and general, online, and on-campus student support in 2018.
  • UTA ranks No. 148 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 High School Counselor Rankings, for which guidance counselors are asked which national universities and national liberal arts colleges they think offer the best undergraduate education to their students.
  • UTA is No. 9 on Great Value Colleges' 2017-18 ranking of the "50 Best Colleges for Adult Education."
  • Forbes ranked UTA No. 191 on its 2018 Best Value Colleges list.
  • UTA was named one of the " by Latino Leaders magazine.
  • A report from the Brookings Institution ranks the University of Texas at Arlington among the nation’s top public universities in providing a high-quality college education to students from all income levels.
  • The Association for Women in Mathematics honored UTA’s AWM student chapter in 2017 with its inaugural national award for fundraising and sustainability.

  • In 2018 UTA was named one of the best online colleges for nontraditional students by It came in at No. 8 on the list.
  • The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Structural Engineering Institute honored UTA’s ASCE Graduate Student Chapter as its graduate student chapter of the year in 2019 and 2017. 
  • UTA was designated a 2010-2020 Carnegie Community Engaged Campus by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for service to the community and the public school system.

  • UTA came in 36th in the “Environment Pillar” of the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking 2017. The pillar considers the makeup of the student body at each campus, helping students understand whether they will find themselves in a diverse, supportive, and inclusive environment while they are at college.
  • UTA was ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 49 in the nation on Washington Monthly’s 2017 list of America’s Best 4-Year Colleges for Adult Learners. The magazine chose colleges based on data from the Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System survey and their College Scorecard database.

  • U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 rankings of the Best Global Universities placed UTA in the 446th spot of 1,000 universities. The news magazine ranked UTA No. 218 for its engineering programs and No. 232 for its physics program.
  • UTA is one of only 63 institutions nationwide named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2017 Transfer Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in community college transfer pathways.

College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs

  • On its 2018 "Most Hired" list, Design Intelligence ranked UTA No. 2 in Texas and No. 12 in the U.S. among landscape architecture schools that produce less than 20 graduates. It also ranked the University No. 2 in Texas and No. 16 in the U.S. among architecture schools that produce between 70-99 graduates.
  • U.S. News & World Report ranks CAPPA’s public affairs graduate program No. 123 in its 2020 “Best Graduate Schools” list.
  • UTA was ranked No. 13 on OnlineU’s 2019 list of the Most Affordable Online Colleges for MPA Programs.
  • The Master of Public Administration was ranked 15th in’s 2019 list of the best value MPA programs.

  • The Online Master's program in Curriculum and Instruction was ranked No. 1 in the nation by College Choice.
  • U.S. News & World Report ranks the College of Education No. 118 in its 2020 “Best Graduate Schools” list.
  • The College of Education’s online graduate education program ranked No. 46 nationally in U.S. News & World Report's 2019 rankings.
  • The College of Education was ranked No. 4 on CollegeChoice’s list of the 50 Best Online Master’s in Education Degrees for 2017.
  • The Center for Online Education ranked UTA No. 6 on its 2018 list of the Best Online Master’s in Educational Leadership Degree Programs.
  • UTA was ranked No. 5 on College Choice’s “Best Elementary Education Degrees” for 2018.

College of Engineering

  • U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 “Best Graduate Schools” list ranks the College of Engineering No. 82 in the nation. The graduate program in aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering is ranked No. 45, biomedical engineering/bioengineering No. 93, civil engineering No. 89, computer engineering No. 73, electrical/electronic/communications engineering No. 82, industrial/manufacturing/systems engineering No. 60, mechanical engineering No. 94, and materials engineering No. 78 in the nation.
  • The SR Education group ranked UTA No. 9 on its list of "Best Online Colleges Offering a Master's in Civil Engineering" for 2019.
  • ranked UTA No. 28 on its list of the Best Online Master in Electrical Engineering Programs for 2019. It was one of only two Texas universities in the top 40. The site also ranked UTA's Online Master in Industrial Engineering No. 25, the highest of any North Texas university.

College of Liberal Arts

  • U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 “Best Graduate Schools” list ranks the English graduate program No. 116 in the nation. The fine arts graduate program is No. 131, and history is No. 132.

College of Nursing and Health Innovation

  • U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 “Best Graduate Schools” list ranks the College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s master's program No. 56 in the nation and its doctor of nursing practice program No. 84. 
  • The College of Nursing and Health Innovation is ranked No. 3 in the nation for veteran friendliness by College Factual. The 2019 rankings look for colleges that produce quality outcomes in nursing and offer support and resources to help veterans and active-duty military students thrive. 
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked UTA No. 75 among 170 online graduate nursing programs across the country in its 2019 list.
  • The College of Nursing and Health Innovation is No. 1 in Texas and No. 10 in the country  for non-traditional students, according to College Factual's 2019 rankings.
  • UTA’s Online Master of Nursing program was ranked No. 25 on Graduate’s "2017 Top Graduate Schools” list.
  • The College of Nursing and Health Innovation was designated a 2015 Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing, making it one of only two universities in Texas to ever receive the honor.
